The standard flow for connecting BT earbuds to a PC works the same way on Windows 10 and Windows 11, and it takes less time than the first pairing usually does on a phone. The core process comes down to three things: the earbuds need to be in pairing mode, Bluetooth needs to be turned on in Windows, and the earbuds need to be selected from the discovered-device list. Once paired, Windows remembers the earbuds and reconnects automatically whenever both are on and in range.

One thing to check before anything else: does your PC actually have Bluetooth? Nearly every laptop does, but many desktop towers ship without it. If Bluetooth is missing from Settings entirely, you’ll need a small USB Bluetooth adapter before pairing can work at all.

Getting The Earbuds Into Pairing Mode

Before Windows can find the earbuds, they have to be actively searching for a connection. Microsoft’s guidance explains that this usually means holding a button on the earbuds or on the charging case until a light flashes.

The exact button and light pattern varies by manufacturer, so check the instructions that came with your earbuds. Common indicators include a rapidly flashing red-and-blue LED or a blinking white light. The key is that the earbuds must be in pairing mode before you start looking for them in Windows.

The Windows 11 And Windows 10 Pairing Steps

Once the earbuds are flashing, the Windows side takes about thirty seconds. Microsoft’s official procedure for both Windows 10 and Windows 11 is straightforward.

On Windows 11:

• Open Settings and go to Bluetooth & devices.
• Make sure Bluetooth is turned On.
• Select Add device (or Add Bluetooth or other device), then choose Bluetooth.
• Wait for your earbuds’ model name to appear in the list, then select them.
• Follow any on-screen prompts and select Done when pairing finishes.

On Windows 10: the flow is nearly identical. Open Settings > Devices > Bluetooth and other devices, turn Bluetooth On, select Add Bluetooth or other device, pick Bluetooth, then choose your earbuds from the list.

Windows searches for nearby Bluetooth devices for a few seconds before they appear. If your earbuds don’t show up, confirm Bluetooth is actually on and that the earbuds are still in pairing mode — they often drop out of pairing mode after about a minute if nothing connects.

When Pairing Fails Or The Earbuds Won’t Connect

Two problems cause most pairing failures, and both have simple fixes.

Bluetooth is off or missing. Double-check the toggle in Bluetooth & devices. If there is no Bluetooth section at all, your PC lacks the hardware — a USB Bluetooth adapter solves this, and it pairs exactly the same way once plugged in.

The earbuds left pairing mode. Put them back into pairing mode and try again. If Windows says the device is paired but no sound comes out, Microsoft notes you may need to open Sound settings and set the earbuds as the default output device.

If the earbuds fail to reconnect automatically later, you can go back into Bluetooth settings, find the paired earbuds, and select Connect manually.
